Winter is the time of the year where along with the common cold and cough a lot of other diseases tend to be highly infectious during this time of the year. It is important to keep ourselves aware of such common diseases so that whenever we feel ill we can take the necessary actions required.
Common Cold:
It is a virus infection. Symptoms include nasal congestion, sore throat, headache, cough & sometimes mild fever. There are different types of viruses that can cause the common cold, however, it is during the winter season common cold is most frequent.
Strep Throat:
Strep throat is a much harsher version of a sore throat which is caused due to bacterial infection. It most commonly occurs among school-going children and its symptoms include high fever & vomiting.
Flu:
Flu is often confused with the common cold. It is caused by the influenza virus and its symptoms include high fever, sore throat, headache, body aches & pains. The optimum way to avoid this infection is to get the flu vaccination every year.
Norovirus:
Norovirus is an infectious stomach bug. It makes you ill, vomit & has diarrhea. It’s important to keep yourself hydrated by drinking a lot of water.
RSV/Bronchiolitis:
RSV, a type of virus that causes bronchiolitis is a common respiratory infection. It starts with a common cold and then it slowly progresses to serious illness, difficulty in breathing & dehydration.
